2008 Foundation’s Legacy Award: This year the Foundation unanimously decided to salute our very own Chair, Alexander E. Holstein, who has headed the Board of Trustees since its inception in 2001. When asked about the Foundation, Alex stated, “It is my belief that the Foundation has created a new sense of excitement, renewal and revitalization in the Jewish community, along with growing opportunities to work in collaborative with the Jewish Federation, synagogues, agencies, and individual donors.” Fortunately for us, after his retirement from Syrocco, Inc., Alex decided to devote his time and energy to civic ventures. In addition to participating in the founding of the Jewish Community Foundation of CNY, he was a past chair of the Federation’s annual campaign, he is also an active member of the board of trustees of Temple Society of Concord, the Judaic Heritage Center, Menorah Park, and a supporting volunteer for F.O.C.U.S. Greater Syracuse. Over the years Alex served on a number of other community and national boards and chaired the Boards of the Dunbar Center, Everson Museum, and Manlius Pebble Hill School.
